Dr. Monica Hum is a board certified colorectal surgeon
who has been in practice at Piedmont Hospital since
2003.  Dr. Hum specializes in colon and rectal surgery
and laparoscopic surgery.

A graduate of Boston University (B.A. cum laude in
Biology and Psychology, 1992) and the State University
of New York Downstate Medical Center (1997), Dr. Hum
performed research in the Cellular Biochemistry and
Biophysics Program at the Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center

Dr. Hum completed her general surgical training at St.
Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, University Hospital of
the Columbia University College of Physicians and
Surgeons.  There, she was the recipient of two
educational grants

Dr. Hum followed this training with fellowship in colon &
rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida.  While
there, she was awarded the Jack W. McElwain Award
from the Northeastern Society of Colon and Rectal
Surgeons.

Dr. Hum is certified by the American Board of Surgery
and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Dr. Hum is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and
Rectal Surgeons.  She is a member of the Society of
American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the
Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Atlanta
Women’s Medical Alliance.

Dr. Hum remains an active member of the Self
Assessment Committee of the American Society of
Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is also an active
member of multiple committees at Piedmont Hospital.

Dr. Hum has produced three videos detailing innovative
surgical techniques in colon and rectal surgery,
presenting them at the American College of Surgeons
Clinical Congress and remaining a part of the Society of
American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons’ Video
Library.
